Project Description
Purpose

Compare HPS (High Pressure Sodium), CF (Compact Fluorescent), and LED luminaires for street lighting.

Identify the most eco-efficient and sustainable option for KAU.

Methodology

Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) using Sustainable Process Index (SPI) to evaluate energy, ecological, and carbon footprints.

Key Outcomes

⚡ Energy consumption reduced 1–4x by switching from HPS to LED.

🌱 Ecological & carbon footprints significantly lowered with LED adoption.

💡 Innovative lighting solutions can save up to 40% of energy.

Context

In Saudi Arabia, ~80% of electricity is used for AC, lighting, and electronics.

Lighting alone accounts for ~19% of global energy use.

Eco-efficient public lighting = cost savings + environmental benefits.

Goal

Meet 94,806 Mlm∙h/year lighting requirement at KAU with a sustainable, energy-efficient system.

Conclusion
→ LED street lighting is the most eco-efficient, cost-effective, and sustainable solution for KAU.
