Project Description
Bone grafting is a common surgical procedure used to treat large and small bone defects by transplanting bone graft material to the site of the defect. Despite being a common practice, it is a major challenge for critically sized segmental defects in long bones including material collapse and dislocation as well as infection. Other graft containment systems have significant limitations that prevent their widespread use for the treatment of segmented bone defects. We are trying to develop a degradable composite 3D in situ printing system that can be intraoperatively tailored to form a graft containment system.
